Cambridge B2 First and C1 Advanced: the certificate that opens Europe
17 October 2026·4 min
Short answer: if you're going on Erasmus anywhere in Europe, or want a stronger CV, Cambridge B2 First or C1 Advanced is the safest bet. It's recognised by universities and employers across Europe and it never expires: take it once and it's yours for life.
Why Cambridge for Europe
- All of Europe. Recognised for Erasmus, universities and work.
- No expiry. Unlike IELTS, TOEFL or PTE, which are usually accepted for two years, a Cambridge certificate has no expiry date (though some universities may ask for a recent one).
- B2 and C1. The two levels Erasmus calls and master's programmes ask for most.
B2 First or C1 Advanced?
Check what level your destination university requires first. B2 is the most common minimum for Erasmus; C1 opens more places and stands out on a CV. Score 180 or more on B2 First and you're awarded a C1 certificate as well. There's a full walkthrough of the exam in our article B2 First: the exam part by part.
Erasmus 2027–28 calls: October to January
